Give every line a job
Label the home and travel profiles clearly. Decide which line supplies data, which is used for ordinary calls and whether the home number must stay available for messages. Check whether the travel product is data-only.
Review automatic data switching and roaming settings. A second profile does not guarantee that the home line will never carry traffic. The provider's terms still determine how calls and messages are treated while abroad.
Keep account recovery available
Before departure, confirm that you can sign in without relying on a single working SMS route. Protect backup methods and do not share verification codes. Install or transfer an eSIM only through a trusted provider process.
Do not erase the home profile to solve a travel installation delay. Some activation codes cannot be reused. Ask which stage has failed: purchase, download, installation, network registration or data access.
Test and review
Check a small ordinary task on the intended data line and confirm settings afterward. Read ship and aircraft rules separately. Wi-Fi calling can also have destination-based billing consequences, so do not assume a Wi-Fi symbol means every call is included.
When returning home, restore defaults deliberately and check whether a travel option renews. Keep the receipt and usage record until the next account review.
