Provider context
Cricket uses AT&T's network but offers its own prepaid plans and customer account. Being on AT&T infrastructure does not make every AT&T plan benefit a Cricket benefit.
Choose a renewal arrangement you can maintain
Check the included phone data, hotspot availability, video policy and multi-line rules for the chosen Cricket plan. A prepaid renewal is not identical to a postpaid bill settled after service. Know the renewal date and what happens if payment is not completed.
Read AutoPay eligibility and the treatment of taxes or fees for the actual plan and transaction. If several people share an account, decide who receives notices and handles payments. Removing one line can affect the household arrangement; compare the remaining lines before making a change.
Start with a supported, unlocked handset
Cricket's official BYOD process checks devices, and its eSIM support includes eligible iPhone and Android models. The exact device matters. A handset's ability to show a signal elsewhere does not prove Cricket supports every feature on it, including Wi-Fi calling.
Follow the official activation path for the selected SIM type. Keep Wi-Fi available, leave the existing number active during a port and protect activation credentials. For a replacement SIM, check that the account has assigned it to the intended line before deleting or discarding anything.
Keep phone transactions distinct from service
A prepaid service can still be associated with a separately purchased or financed phone. Review the seller, finance provider, installment obligation and any promotional conditions. A trade-in or discount may have requirements that differ from an ordinary SIM-only activation.
Verify the current unlocking policy before planning to move that phone. Retain purchase and return records. Optional device cover should be reviewed on its own terms; it does not change network compatibility or remove an existing carrier lock.
Understand the AT&T-network relationship
Check Cricket's current coverage map for the places you need, rather than assuming every AT&T coverage feature is identical. Indoor signal, local capacity and compatible 5G bands all influence results. A strong signal indicator does not tell you whether a plan threshold or congestion is affecting data.
Test ordinary phone use and hotspot separately. If a laptop slows while the phone works normally, inspect hotspot terms. If only one messaging app fails, check that app before resetting network settings. Use official service information to investigate an outage; this page does not show live network status.
Travel and home connectivity are separate questions
Confirm the current plan's destinations, calling options, roaming eligibility and any fair-use conditions. Cross-border inclusions should not be generalized to all overseas trips. A travel eSIM can provide a second data line, but it does not automatically prevent the Cricket line from generating roaming activity.
Do not treat a phone hotspot as unlimited household broadband. For a dedicated home service, compare separate address eligibility, equipment and terms with the relevant provider. A Cricket mobile account does not establish entitlement to AT&T fiber or another AT&T product.
Renew, troubleshoot and transfer through Cricket
Use the account and app links on Cricket's official site for usage, payment and support. Keep recovery information current and record unexplained billing entries. For a payment problem, check the service renewal state before replacing the SIM or changing device settings.
Before leaving, request the required account and number-transfer details from Cricket. Keep the line active until the new provider confirms completion. Test calls and SMS in both directions afterwards. Cricket must handle account-specific restrictions; we provide general explanations only.

Phone data, high-speed hotspot and international use have separate conditions. Check the exact plan rather than the network name alone.
