Reach and capacity are different properties
Different radio frequencies have different propagation characteristics. Lower-frequency signals generally travel farther and penetrate obstacles better; higher-frequency deployments can provide substantial capacity but need suitable local coverage. A provider may combine several layers.
The phone's icon is not a speed test or a guarantee that all traffic uses the same radio arrangement. Hardware, software, plan eligibility and deployment all affect which features are available.
Compare everyday tasks
A short download result may not predict a sustained upload, a video call or a congested commute. Test the task that matters, at the time and location it will be used. Keep the phone and settings consistent when making comparisons.
If 5G is absent, inspect supported network settings and the provider's device guidance. LTE service can still be useful. Do not disable essential calling support or repeatedly reset the device solely to force an icon to appear.
Home internet uses a different product agreement
A 5G home gateway and a 5G phone can share cellular infrastructure while having different availability, equipment and management conditions. An address can be outside a home product's eligibility even where a phone receives service.
Test gateway placement and Wi-Fi separately. A mesh router may improve reach inside the home, but it cannot fix every limitation in the cellular access connection.
