Prepare the service location
Confirm the provider's full-address eligibility and the product you are receiving. A fixed-wireless gateway may be intended for a registered address; do not assume it is a portable travel router. Check installation instructions, equipment ownership and return terms.
Choose a safe, ventilated position with power and suitable reception. Avoid hiding a gateway behind dense furniture or enclosing it in a cabinet. Follow the provider's placement guidance rather than balancing equipment in an unsafe window position.
Establish a baseline
Test close to the router, and over Ethernet if supported. Run the actual tasks that matter, such as a meeting or upload. Repeat at a busy household time. A single speed result is not a full account of reliability.
Then test the rooms where devices are used. If the baseline works but a distant room does not, investigate Wi-Fi range and interference. If all locations struggle, inspect the access connection, gateway status and official service notices.
Keep a record for support or departure
Write down when the issue happens, which devices are affected and whether wired access also fails. Do not factory-reset the gateway before saving required settings or following provider guidance.
If changing service, confirm the cancellation date, final bill and equipment return. A mobile line and a home account can have separate obligations even when they appear in one bundle.
