Plan the line, then the household
Review prepaid renewal, phone data, hotspot and multi-line conditions. Check whether a condition applies only to a new line, a transferred number or a particular payment setup. A plan suited to one person may behave differently when several household lines are added or removed.
Unlimited wording needs a separate reading for priority during congestion, video behavior and tethering. A watch, tablet or hotspot may require its own connected-device plan. Do not assume a phone's allowance is automatically shared with every device you own.
Match SIM activation to the exact phone
Metro publishes eSIM guidance for supported devices. Confirm compatibility and any existing carrier lock before ordering or moving a number. Physical SIM replacement and eSIM transfer must follow the current Metro process, not instructions for a different T-Mobile-branded account.
Use a reliable connection and verify the correct number and device during setup. Preserve the old working profile until the new line is tested. If an activation request arrives unexpectedly, secure the account through Metro rather than approving it to make a notification disappear.
Separate a handset offer from the airtime
Read eligibility for a new phone, upgrade, trade-in or finance arrangement before committing. Document the actual device obligation and any conditions linked to keeping service. A promotional handset arrangement does not mean the phone is unlocked or free of remaining commitments.
If bringing your own device, verify supported calling features as well as basic data compatibility. Check the current unlocking rules for a Metro-purchased phone before leaving. Keep the receipt, serial information and return evidence in your own records, not in a public support message.
Test Metro service where it matters
Use Metro's map and test indoor calls, commute data and hotspot tasks. Sharing T-Mobile infrastructure does not mean every plan's priority and roaming terms match. 5G depends on the supported phone, the area and the radio conditions, and may vary from room to room.
For no signal, check the account's active state and selected SIM. For slow data, distinguish a busy location from an allowance threshold. For call drops, note whether they occur during movement, indoors or on Wi-Fi calling. These observations make an official support request more precise.
Check travel and home-service eligibility independently
Read country-specific roaming and international-calling options for the Metro plan. Calling a destination from home does not prove the line can roam there. Confirm data behavior, calls and messages before travel, especially on ships and aircraft or when using a second eSIM.
If considering a home-internet product through a related channel, verify its own address checker, gateway terms and account conditions. A mobile phone's signal is only one clue; it is not confirmation that a fixed-wireless home order is available.
Account control and leaving
Reach the official account and app through Metro's website. Check renewal dates, payment methods, optional extras and authorized users. If a first payment or change looks unusual, obtain the transaction breakdown rather than comparing only a headline recurring amount.
Use Metro's official transfer-credential process and keep the line active until the receiving provider completes the number move. Review other lines and connected devices afterward. Persistent SIM, porting or account restrictions require Metro to act; our contact line supplies independent information.
