Assessment 01

Fixed-line broadband

Openreach lines for EE, Vodafone and Sky; cable and full fibre for Virgin Media in the O2 family.

The case for

Consistent performance independent of mast load, higher ceilings where full fibre is available, and a traditional phone line where you need one.

The case against

Availability depends entirely on your street's wiring, installation can require an engineer visit, and none of it has anything to do with mobile signal at the same address.

The bottom line

Check availability separately from coverage. If your street is not served, that is a wires problem no mobile plan can solve.

If you'd rather ask a person

We are independent: nothing for sale, no access to your account, and we will never ask you for a security code. We will read an offer with you, explain a clause, or talk a switch through.

Assessment 02

4G and 5G routers

A router delivered by post, serving a fixed address from the mobile network.

The case for

Live the day it arrives — no engineer, no excavation, no line rental — which suits rented homes, short tenancies and badly wired streets. Beside a strong, uncongested mast it competes with mid-priced fibre.

The case against

The mast is the product. Behind a busy or distant one, evening performance degrades and no in-home setting corrects it. There is no traditional phone line.

The bottom line

Order inside the returns window, place the router at the window facing the mast, and run a full week of real evenings before deciding.

Assessment 03

Bundles

Mobile and broadband purchased together on one account.

The case for

Genuine savings, particularly for multi-line households — bonus data, discounted lines and free additional SIMs all appear here.

The case against

One account for everything makes leaving feel heavier than it legally is, and a broadband offer can tempt people onto a mobile network their postcode does not suit.

The bottom line

Price the household as a whole, but choose the mobile network on coverage first. The PAC text is unaffected by a bundled bill.
