Assessment 01

The statutory text system

PAC to 65075 to keep your number; STAC to 75075 to relinquish it.

The case for

Free, returned within minutes, valid thirty days, with every exit sum itemised in the reply before you commit. Operators may not refuse, delay or condition the code.

The case against

Almost nobody knows this, which is why retention scripts implying a required phone call still work.

The bottom line

Send the text yourself. No conversation is required at any point.

If you'd rather ask a person

We are independent: nothing for sale, no access to your account, and we will never ask you for a security code. We will read an offer with you, explain a clause, or talk a switch through.

Assessment 02

Retention offers

The better deal offered once you signal intent to leave.

The case for

Lawful, occasionally genuinely good, and sometimes the best price available to you anywhere.

The case against

They cannot be a condition of receiving a code, and an offer accepted under time pressure is rarely compared properly.

The bottom line

Take the code first, then listen. With it in hand you are comparing offers rather than requesting permission.

Assessment 03

Leaving mid-term

Departing before a minimum term ends.

The case for

Entirely permitted, and the charge is disclosed in the reply before you commit — so the decision is made with real numbers.

The case against

On split contracts an airtime term charge and a device balance can both appear, which makes the arithmetic more involved.

The bottom line

Do the sum: sometimes paying the charge is cheaper than the remaining months. Sometimes it is not.

Assessment 04

Timing and continuity

Managing the move without losing service.

The case for

Transfers ordinarily complete within one working day, and your old line stays live until the number moves.

The case against

People frequently cancel the old plan first, which is exactly how gaps in service happen.

The bottom line

Buy the new plan, request the code, hand it over, keep the old SIM in until the number lands, then confirm the final bill closed at zero.
